The Jigawa State Government has injected more than N11 billion into its contributory pension scheme since 2023, as part of efforts to safeguard the welfare of civil servants and ensure that retirees receive their benefits without delay.

The Executive Secretary of the Jigawa State and Local Governments Contributory Pension Scheme Board, Dr. Binyaminu Shitu Aminu, disclosed this on Monday during the disbursement of retirement benefits at the Pension House in Dutse.

Aminu said the state had released a total of N1,429,201,208.92 in pensions and related benefits to 564 beneficiaries.

He explained that the sum covers retirement benefits, death benefits, and outstanding death pension balances.

According to him, 485 retired civil servants received N1,191,804,237.17 as retirement entitlements, while N226,547,197.84 was paid to the families of 71 deceased workers.

In addition, N10,849,773.91 was disbursed to the families of eight pensioners to clear outstanding death pension balances.

Aminu assured beneficiaries that the board remains committed to the prompt payment of pensions and other entitlements, noting that monthly pensions are paid regularly on the first day of every month.

Speaking earlier at the Pension House, the Jigawa State Accountant-General, Mr. Abdullahi S.G. Shehu, described the state’s pension system as one of the best in the country.

He reaffirmed Governor Umar Namadi’s commitment to the welfare of serving and retired civil servants, adding that the state’s pension framework has become a model for other states.

Mr. Shehu further stated that since assuming office in May 2023, the governor has injected over N11 billion into the pension scheme to strengthen and sustain its operations.
