The lawmaker representing Ikeja Federal Constituency, Rt. Hon. James Abiodun Faleke, has implemented a large-scale empowerment programme focused on improving employability, supporting enterprise, and expanding access to vocational tools for thousands of constituents.
The initiative, witnessed by Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, is designed to strengthen human capital, reduce unemployment, and stimulate inclusive economic participation across the constituency.
As part of the programme, more than 450 mini-buses and tricycles were distributed to create income opportunities within the local transport value chain. Artisanal equipment, including industrial sewing machines and grinding machines, was provided to micro-entrepreneurs to enhance productivity and support small business sustainability. In addition, laptops and digital kits were presented to students and young people to build digital competencies relevant to today’s labour market.
“The primary purpose of government is the welfare of the people. Hon. Faleke is not just a representative in Abuja; he is a provider and a pillar of support here at home,” Mr. Sanwo-Olu said.
More than 17,000 residents also received vocational training and financial grants aimed at enabling self-employment and business start-ups, with several beneficiaries describing Faleke as a “godsend”.
The empowerment programme forms part of Faleke’s “Light Up Ikeja” project, which has installed thousands of solar-powered streetlights across the constituency, improving safety and extending productive hours for economic activities.
