Adeleke Pays LG Workers’ Salaries Despite N230bn Allocation Suspension

By Samuel Ogunsona

Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has ensured that local government workers continue to receive their salaries despite the Federal Government’s withholding of approximately N230 billion in allocations for nearly a year.

The disclosure was made by the Commissioner for Information, Mr. Kolapo Alimi, who refuted claims that local council workers had been left unpaid owing to the prolonged withholding of federal allocations.

He stated that core salaries had been paid without interruption through state-level interventions.

“There has been no interruption in the payment of core salaries to local council workers. Salaries are being paid fully and as and when due,” Alimi said, describing allegations of non-payment as misleading.

According to him, the state government has deployed its own resources to sustain salary payments, thereby ensuring financial stability for workers and shielding their families from hardship.

However, he acknowledged that certain allowances and supplementary entitlements have been affected as a result of the withheld allocations.

“The continued hijacking of the allocations has directly impacted the payment of certain allowances and supplementary entitlements ordinarily funded from those statutory allocations,” Alimi added.
